The German Christmas Lights and Markets

There’s nothing better in the festive season than wrapping up warm and heading out to see the wonderful Christmas lights on the streets and private houses.

If you fancy decorating your home this year try looking online at ChristmasLightsEtc. They have a fantastic array of lights for personal and commercial use.

On the other hand, if you want a winter break, why not consider Berlin? Germany is the home of Christmas lights so it’s not surprising that the streets of its capital city are ablaze with decoration. The German Christmas markets combine with the scene offering gluhwein and gifts for the whole family in a peaceful, joyous setting.

The Christmas lights of Berlin are so popular in fact, that photo-graphical walking tours can be purchased along with coach tours to see them shine in all their glory. Many UK tour companies offer two or three day mini breaks specifically to see the Christmas lights in Berlin and take you to visit the markets. Make sure you take warm clothing – although a dusting of snow just makes everything seem more magical!

There are about 60 different Christmas markets in Berlin all offering their own delicacies and delicious sights, sounds and smells. Standing 12 metres high and 70 meters long, the largest mobile toboggan run in Europe is set up at Winter Wonderland in Potsdamer Platz. On KohlWitzPlatz, find the ‘green’ Christmas market, specializing in Eco friendly gifts and souvenirs. Children will love the fairytale Christmas market at Jagdschloss Grunewald where characters such as Hansel and Gretal and the fairy godmother mingle with shoppers.

The BerlinWelcome card which can be purchased online at www.vistberlin.de is a great deal which includes free transport, city guide and discounted entry prices for many attractions.  You can purchase this card for a specified amount of days and people with the money saving benefits paying for the cost of the card. Excellent for touring around all the different Christmas markets on offer and seeing the sights!
